How To Make Pune’s Famous Street Food - Mango Mastani

             Mastani is a dessert drink, in which a glass full of a thick and creamy milkshake topped with ice cream, nuts, and sweet candied fruits. Similarly, Mango Mastani is a delightful, rich, and thick mango milkshake topped with vanilla/mango ice cream, chopped nuts, and tutti frutti or sweet candied fruit. 


            If you go to Pune, never ever miss trying the Sujata Mastani. They have more than 15 flavors of Mastani. Some of the flavors are, Pista, Gulkand, Dry-fruits,  Butterscotch, Kesar(Saffron), Rose, Pineapple, Vanilla, Chocolate, Sitaphal, Orange, and Mango Mastani, to name a few. Whenever I go, I always go for Mango Mastani, a glass loaded with fresh mango pulp mixed with chilled milk and topped with scoops of vanilla ice cream and garnished with chopped mangoes, glazed cherries and tutti frutti on top too. Soooo Satisfying and Refreshing!!! If you are also a mango lover, do try this and enjoy the richness of mango.

            If you tasted Faloodo ever, then you will resemble Mango Mastani a lot like Mango Falooda, which has a few more ingredients as compared to Mastani. Still, both are refreshing and awfully loaded with fresh fruit juice, milk, and ice cream. 

How it gets the name Mastani?
            It is named after the famous Bajirao’s Mastani. This name from the legend of the famous Peshwa ruler Bajirao and his lover, the beautiful Mastani. Hence this delicious, famous dessert has been named after the effervescent, beautiful courtesan who stole the mighty Bajirao’s heart. Also, when this drink was served to people, they used to appreciatively remark ‘Mast’ (Mast means Awesome); thus, this drink is called Mastani.


          Now that I knew what actually goes in that glass, and I could not go to have Mango Mastani at Sujata Mastani back home, I recreated the recipe at home, my husband and friends just loved it. And now, here is the recipe to make Mango Mastani for you all.

Some More Refreshing Summer Beverage to Try:

Preparation Time: 5 Minutes.
Each Serving of Mango Mastani Contains 448 Cal.

Ingredients:
To Prepare Mango Shake:
  • Mango 2 cups, Ripe, Peeled and Cubed
  • Sugar 2 tsp
  • Whole Milk 1 Cup, Chilled
  • Vanilla / Mango Ice Cream 1 scoop
For Serving Mango Mastani:
  • Strawberry Crush 1 Tbsp
  • Vanilla or Mango Ice Cream 1 Scoop
  • Almonds 1 Tsp, sliced
  • Pistachio 1 Tsp, sliced
  • Tutti Frutti 1 Tsp
  • Rose Syrup for glazing (optional)
  • Mango 2 tbsp, Cubed
Instructions:
To Prepare Mango Shake:
  • Add mango cubes, sugar, milk, and ice cream in a blender and blend to make the milkshake.
For Serving Mango Mastani:
  • At the bottom of the serving glass, add strawberry crush.
  • Then a layer of mango cubes and pour the shake in a glass.
  • Top with Ice cream and garnish with a drizzle of rose syrup, some mango cubes, sliced almonds and pistachios, and tutti frutti. Yummy, Cheers!!!

My Take:
  • If you don’t have strawberries, then skip adding strawberry crush.
  • You can use an ice cream of your choice.
  • If using mangoes are sweet, then you can skip adding sugar.
  • You can use canned mango puree to make the shake if fresh fruit is not available.

  • The calorie count is based on a 2000 calorie diet.
  • Per serving contains 448 calories, along with 58.9 g carbohydrates, 1.8 g dietary fiber, 21 g fats, and 9.9 g protein.
