 How to prepare Sabudana Thalipeeth | उपवासाचे साबुदाण्याचे थालीपीठ

Hello Foodies,

Sabudana thalipeeth is a breakfast or evening snack recipe and ideal for who are fasting. You can make sabudana vadas or sabudana thalipeeth from the same mixture.

It is a healthy pancake recipe made with tapioca/sago pearls, boiled potatoes, roasted peanuts, and fresh herbs. It is loaded with all the nutrients to make a balanced meal and thus served during fasting. It has the same ingredients as of sabudana vada but shaped like a crepe. Serve the Sabudana thalipeeth with any falahari chutney or raita. I served with dahi or sometimes serve with tamarind dates chutney.

  • Roast the peanuts and grind to make powder, mince the green chilies and keep them ready.
  • In a bowl, add all the ingredients(sabudana, peanuts powder, potato, green chilies, red chili powder, chopped coriander leaves, lemon juice, salt, and cumin seeds) together.
  • Mix well together to make the dough.
  • Now divide the dough into equal portions.
  • Take a ball of dough and spread it with palm or use a rolling pin to flatten it into a thin circle on a zip lock bag or any plastic sheet.
  • Grease tawa with oil and heat it, now transfer the prepared thalipeeth gently to the tawa, and drizzle oil around the thalipeeth.
  • Cook on medium heat until it starts browning. Flip it over to the other side and cook from both sides until golden brown.
  • Here, healthy, tasty, and crispy Sabudana Thalipeeth or उपवासाचे थालीपीठ is ready to serve, serve hot with curd or any chutney of your choice. Enjoy!!!

My Take:

  • The sabudana should be soaked well and should be very soft.
  • You can use Rajgira Flour/Paneer/tapioca flour/arrowroot powder as a binder/binding agent.
