How to Make Ukadiche Modak In Instant Pot

            Ganpati festival celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha! It's a long ten days festival celebrated in Maharashtra, India with tremendous zeal and cheerfulness. This year Ganesh festival started on 2nd Sept 2019. Devotees offer Modaks to Lord Ganesha, and this Ukadiche Modak is one of Lord Ganesha's favorite modaks.


 The true essence of celebration is incomplete without good food. At home every day we prepare different sweets to offer Bappa(To Lord Ganesha we lovingly call Bappa), delicious sweets made with the goodness of a variety of flavors. It is that time of the year when the loud cheers of Ganpati Bappa Morya will add on to the festive spirit.

              Ukadiche Modak means Steamed Sweet Dumplings and those are prepared with rice flour and stuffed with coconut-jaggery stuffing. There are several varieties of this delicacy made from milk, fruit or dry nuts flavors to chocolate flavors. During Ganesh Chaturthi, the puja usually concludes with an offering of 21 modaks to Ganesha as prasadam. So guys treat your tastebuds with this lip-smacking modak and relish its yummy flavors with your family and friends.


Here are some Ganpati Festival Bhog/Prasadam/Naivedyam Recipes:
Preparation Time: 15 Minutes; Cooking Time:10 Minutes
Steaming Time:10 Minutes.

Each Serving of Ukadiche Modak Contains 135 Calories.


Ingredients:
To Prepare Stuffing For Modak:
  • Coconut(fresh)1 Cup, grated
  • Jaggery ½ Cup
  • Cardamom Powder 1 Tsp
  • Poppy seeds 1 Tbsp
  • Nutmeg ¼ Tsp

To Prepare the Dough:
  • Rice flour 1 cup
  • Water 1 cup
  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Salt   tsp
  • Sugar 1 tsp
  • Saffron Strands (optional)
Instructions:
1)To Prepare Coconut Stuffing:
  • In a pan, add coconut and roast it for 2-3 minutes on medium to low flame.
  • Now, add Jaggery, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, and dry roasted poppy seeds.
  • Mix well, and stuffing is ready, transfer to a bowl and let it cool.

2) To Prepare the Dough:
  • In a pan, add a cup of water and let it boil.
  • Now add salt, sugar, and oil and mix well.
  • Add the rice flour to the boiling water and mix well.
  • Turn off the flame and cover the mixture for 5 minutes.
  • After 5 minutes, transfer the mixture into the bowl and add 1-2 Tbsp of warm water and knead well.
  • Knead the dough for 5-6 minutes or until it becomes soft.
  • Once, it becomes soft and not breaking; it will be good for the modaks.

3) To Make Ukdiche Modak: 
  • Grease the modak mold with the oil(you can use Ghee), stuff the dough and press to the sides to form the shape and make a hole in the center.
  • Stuff the modak with the prepared coconut stuffing and seal the modak with dough. 
  • Open the mold gently and palace the modak into the plate, similarly, make the remaining modaks.
  • Grease the pan with the oil and transfer the modaks into the pan.


4) To Steam the Modak into the Instant Pot:
  • Turn on the Instant Pot and add 2 cups of water.
  • Place the trivet and the modaks pan.
  • Close the lid and steam the modaks for 10 minutes.
  • Release pressure manually and open the lid.
  • Take the pan out and garnish modaks with the saffron strands.
  • Here, delicious, sweet, and Ganapati Bappa's favorite modaks are ready to serve. Enjoy!!!


My Take:
  • You can add dry nuts while preparing the stuffing.
  • You can garnish modaks with saffron before steaming too.
  • You can add milk instead of water while making dough or add half a cup of milk and half a cup of water.
  • You may use Ghee instead of oil.

Dietary Comment:
  • The calorie count is based on a 2000 calorie diet.
  • Per serving contains 135 calories, along with 11.48 g carbohydrates, 5 g fats, and 1.2 g protein.
  • Portion size can always be increased or decreased depending on your health goals and activity level.
