Phool Makhana Kheer Recipe | मखाने की खीर - Vrat Recipe

           Treat your family and yourself this mahashivratri with this delicious, easy to
prepare and yet wholesome and healthy Makhana Kheer. Mahashivratri is one of a Hindu festival, celebrated on the month of Phalgun(which comes in February/March) every year. Devotees observe fast on this whole day and can eat only permitted food items during a fast. This makhana kheer is a healthy and simple fast recipe that will help you use the occasion as an excuse to adapt to better eating habits! This recipe combines milk, makhana and brown sugar that will give you simple carbs, loads of fiber and proteins. It's going to be a yummy treat for your taste buds. Coconut and raisin add plenty of nutritious value and keep you energized.
           Also, I have prepared a savory version of this fox nuts, will share soon and we loved the crunchy and savory treat of makhana. It was ecstatic that it helps to keep us miles away from junk food and processed treats. This makhana kheer is definitely a delightful dessert to serve on this mahashivratri.
            Makhana is also known as lotus seeds, fox nuts, Gorgon nut, euryle detox. In Indian households that are commonly consumed during fasts and even use it as an ingredient to prepare sweet and savory dishes in Indian cuisines. Makhana can be consumed raw or cooked form depending on the individuals' taste. They are a good source of protein, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus.

Preparation and Cooking Time: 20 Minutes.
Each Serving of Makhana Kheer Contains 180 Calories.

  • Makhana 1 Cup
  • Milk 3 Cups
  • Brown sugar 3 Tbsp
  • Desiccated Coconut 2 Tbsp
  • Raisins 2 Tsp
  • Cardamom powder 1 Tsp
  • Ghee 2 Tsp
  • Saffron few strands + 2 tbsp warm milk


  • Dry roast coconut for 1-2 minutes on medium to low flame.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and roast raisins, makhana for 2-3 minutes and keep it aside.
  • Now, coarsely grind roasted makhana(i have grinded ½ cup only).
  • Now, boil milk in a pan
    and add sugar, roasted desiccated coconut, raisins, cardamom powder, and saffron milk and stir well.
  • Now, add roasted and grinded makhana to the milk and mix well and cook for 4-5 Minutes.
  • Tadaa, yummylicious makhana kheer is ready to serve. Enjoy!!!
