How to Prepare Baked Savoury Crackers 



Hello Foodies,
          When things come to party appetizer or holiday snacks or crunchy, crispy, savory snacks for cheese dip then these healthy, classy and baked savory crackers are my favorite and easy peasy item these days. They are simple, quick and easy appetizer which will win over your crowd and if you are looking for add lighter and healthier version to your game day snacks or party appetizer, then this is perfect for any season.
             Last weekend I invited a few friends of ours for snacks, appetizers, and drinks. There is nothing awesome than chatting(gossiping😜), eating homemade food and enjoying a weekend with your friends and having yummy snacks with a cup of hot tea. Wah! Awesome start of the weekend. Right? Anyways, that day I prepared these delicious crackers and served them with homemade hummus. Start to finish on this appetizer it took about 20 minutes. They are great to snack on when you are in the mood to munch. They will satisfy hunger. Here in this recipe, I have used cheddar cheese, but you can use, mozzarella, parmesan or whatever you like. Until today I have not used any of them, but if you are in the mood for that, then give it a try.  I have used oregano and red chili powder as I liked it simple and light, but you may add any seasoning as you like. Also if you are adding any other cheese then adjust the quantity of the salt accordingly, because cheese is already salty. Even if you don't let it bake enough, it will just be like stretchy not crispy. When you remove them from the oven, you will need to let them cool, and after a few minutes, they will be crispy and crunchy. And you will get this crunchy party snack or a tiffin box side. So let's start with the procedure.

Preparation Time: 10 Minutes; Baking Time: 10 Minutes.
Total Time: 20 Minutes.
Each savory crackers has 20 Calories.

Ingredients :

  • Whole Wheat flour 1 cup
  • Milk Powder 1 Tsp + Baking Powder ½ tsp
  • Red chili powder 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1 Tsp
  • Cheddar cheese ½ cup
  • Milk ¼ cup
  • Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
  • Oregano 1 tsp
  • Butter/olive oil 1 tbsp

Recipe :

  • Preheat oven to 425 °F (220°C) and line baking tray
    with aluminum foil/parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl add wheat flour, milk powder, baking powder, red chili powder, oregano,salt, and butter and mix all well.
  • Now, add cheese and mix it with flour very well.
  • Add milk as needed and knead to make a soft dough, cover and keep aside for 10-15 minutes.
  • Furthermore, flour a work surface and divide dough into equal portions and roll it out each portion of dough(approx.4-5 mm).
  • Using cookie cutters, cut it into desired shapes and sprinkle sesame seeds and press them down into the dough using a spatula. ( I have used a star, Christmas tree, round shaped cookie cutter and to make them diamond shaped I have used a small pizza cutter).
  • Place them on the aluminum
    foil-lined a baking tray, greased with olive oil and bake in the preheated oven at 425°F for 7 to 8 minutes.
  • Once baked, turn off oven and place tray back in and keep the door slightly open, the crackers will crisp up as it cools(keep it in for few minutes or until they becomes crispy).
  • Tadaa, crispy, savory and tasty crackers are ready to serve. Enjoy it with a cup of tea or with any dip.!!!

Why I use Milk Powder in
baking?

  •          Using of milk powder helps to enhance browning of the crust due to the potential caramelization of the milk sugars. Also, it helps to make the dough softer and enhance the flavor of the end product.
  •          Instead of mixing the milk powder with wet ingredients or with water, mix the milk powder into the dry ingredients like baking powder, flour called for the recipe.

My Take :

  • Store it in an airtight container for up to 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Use grated cheese to make crackers that will be easy to incorporate it into the flour.
  • You may use mozzarella cheese or any of your choice.
  • Instead of milk, you may add water to knead the dough.
  • If you don't have milk powder in your hand, you may skip it and add baking powder 1 ½ Tsp.

Dietary Comments :

  • Based on a 2000 calorie diet, per serving contains 20.59 calories, along with carbohydrates - 2.74 g, fats - 0.76 g, proteins - 0.72 g.
