To Wash and Prepare Raw Banana to Air Fry:

  • In a bowl, pour 4-5 cups of water, 1 tsp salt, and ½ Tsp turmeric.

  • Air fry at 360 F for about 10 minutes.
  • If they need additional time, leave them in for another few minutes.

  • Then, repeat the process until all slices are cooked.
  • Sprinkle some red chili powder and salt over the top, if you like, and mix well.
  • Remove the banana chips from the air fryer and place them into a large bowl.
  • Allow the banana/plantain chips to cool to room temperature. Enjoy!!!

To deep-fry/Oil fry the banana chips:

  • You’ll know the banana chips are done when they start to brown around the edges.
  • Once done remove the pan from the oven.
  • Season with your favorite seasoning. Enjoy!!!

Why are my air-fryer chips soggy?

  • Because air-fryer temperatures vary, so do cook times. You may need to cook your chips a little longer than suggested. If your air-fryer chips are soggy, throw them back into the air fryer to cook a little more. Start checking the food in the shortest time and check back a little later if it’s not done.

Here are some more Air Fryer Recipes to Try:

Tips:

  • Make sure you peel the bananas before slicing them.
  • You don’t need to throw the peels of banana, you can make a curry/sabzi with them.
  • Adjust the air frying/cooking time depending on the thickness.
  • Drop banana slices into the turmeric water after slicing, as it changes color to black.
  • For the authentic flavor of banana chips, use coconut oil.
  • While air frying, don’t add too much of the slices and don’t overcrowd. The slices stick to each other and don’t become crisp. So you have to air fry in batches.
  • I have seasoned the banana chips with red chili powder and salt. Though you can use your own choice of herbs and spices.
  • Brush on a thin layer of coconut oil before baking or air frying for added flavor.
  • Slice them thinner for faster cooking and crispier chips.
  • For longer chips, slice the fruit lengthwise.
