How to Make Maharashtrian Metiche Pithale

          Methi Pithla/Pithle is a simple, yet delicious main course dish in taste and flavor. Methi Pithle and Bhakri is homestyle Maharashtrian comfort food.

          Pithla is very quick and easy to make and tastes absolutely great when eaten hot with Bajrichi Bhakri or Jwarichi Bhakri. You can also savor it with Rotis, Chapatis, or Phulkas.

Methi Pithla (also called Methiche Pithale) is a simple curry made with fresh methi leaves (fenugreek leaves) and besan (gram flour/chickpeas flour). It is flavored with garlic and green chilies and tastes divine with Bhakri or roti. Pithla is a very easy and quick dish that takes very little time to prepare and tastes just amazing. 

Preparation Time: 10 minutes; Cook Time: 15 minutes
Each Serving of Methi Pithle Contains 133 Calories.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 Cups Fresh Methi Leaves(Fenugreek Leaves)
  • ¼ Cup Besan(Gram Flour)
  • ½ Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • ½ Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 5 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Onion, Chopped
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • 8-10 Green Chilies
  • 1 Pinch of Asafoetida/Hing
  • 2 Tsp Oil
  • 2 Cups of Water
  • Salt To Taste

Instructions:

  • By grinding, green chilies 10, garlic 3 cloves make a paste and keep it aside.
  • In a bowl add besan and water ½ cup.
  • Mix well and make a lump-free batter, keep it aside(ensure you have a smooth batter).

To Make Methi:

  • In a pan heat oil on a medium flame and splutter cumin, mustard seeds.
  • Add chopped garlic, asafoetida, saute and cook for a minute or till it just starts to change color.
  • Add onion, saute and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Now, add fenugreek leaves/methi leaves.
  • Saute and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  • Add 2 cups of water, turmeric. salt, and bring it to a boil.
  • Turn down the heat to low.
  • Gradually, pour the prepared besan mixture and keep mixing continuously to avoid any lumps.
  • Turn the heat up to medium and cook the mix till the Methi Pithla becomes thick and glossy.
  • Turn off the heat and serve methi pithle immediately with Bhakri.
  • Here, healthy, spicy, and protein-rich Methi Pithle is ready to serve.
  • Methi Pithale tastes yummy when served warm with bhakri and bhat. Enjoy!!! 
Tips:

  • Methi Pithle tastes best when eaten hot/warm.
  • If the Pithle goes cold, it will solidify, so add some warm water and mix well. Heat the Pithle for 2-3 minutes.
