How to Cook No-Soak Black Eyed Peas in the Instant Pot
Hello Foodies,
A healthy alternative to canned Black Eyed Peas that are ready to use in any recipe. I use my Instant Pot to cook pulses, beans(no soaking required)! The cooking time for soaked and unsoaked beans is different.
Forget soaking the black-eyed peas? No worries about pre-soaking and the beans will be fully cooked in only 30 minutes! Cooking beans in the Instant Pot is super fast and cooks a pot of beans with no hands-on attention required. This recipe is perfect for flavorful beans that can be used in many ways. If you are using non-soaked beans, I recommend boiling the beans for about 10 minutes first to break down the lectins.
How to Soak Black Eyed Peas(Overnight Soaking Method)?
- Rinse the Black Eyed Peas in a colander, remove rocks or debris.
- Transfer the Black Eyed Peas to a pot and fill with clean water and add another two inches to the top.
- The peas will swell as they soak so the extra water is important.
- Cover the pot and let it sit overnight.
- The next morning, strain the beans and proceed with your recipe.
How to Quick Soak Black Eyed Peas:
- If you don't soak peas overnight, you should at least quick-soak them.
- Cover peas with water in a stockpot and bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat, cover, and let the peas stand for at least one hour.
- Then you are ready to cook the peas according to the recipe!
- This quick soaking method makes preparing dry peas a breeze. So go ahead and buy bulk, then store and prep those beans with ease!
Add Flavorings, If You Want-
- To make flavorful black-eyed peas, you can add a few garlic cloves, green chilies to the pot along with the salt.
- You could also add herbs, like bay leaves or dried oregano, fresh herbs are good too, such as rosemary, thyme, or cilantro and you'll have a flavorful pot of creamy, tender peas in no time at all.
