Hello Guys,

Have you ever tried cake stenciling? If not, try it now, cake stenciling is low stress and yields highly impressive results! Today I am sharing with you all how to stencil the top of cake using buttercream frosting. Stenciling the top of a cake with buttercream frosting or royal icing is pretty easy. After all that hard work baking and frosting your cake, the last thing you want to do is mess it all up with crappy decorations. But have no fear, you can still decorate it with a beautiful design. The key to a no-fail, clean design on any cake is to use stencils. So let's start!

Tools you’ll need :
  1. Baked Cake with flat surface (I have used eggless vanilla cake )
  2. Buttercream Frosting (I have used Chocolate Buttercream Frosting)
  3. A stencil of your choice
  4. Piece of plastic
  5. Spatula
  6. Sprinkles of your choice (I have used heart shaped sprinkles)

Instructions :
  1. Cover both the layers of cake with buttercream frosting (I have used Chocolate flavor) and chill in refrigerator if the surface is sticky (30 min - 1 hour).
  2. If you can touch the icing and it doesn’t come off on
your finger, then it’s ready for a stencil.
  3. Place stencil on cake surface just hold the stencil in place with one hand and spread buttercream over it and lift stencil gently.
  4. If the base icing gets too soft, return cake to the refrigerator to crust over again before continuing.

My Take :
  1. If you want to decorate the sides of the cake with a stencil design, then tape the stencils to the sides to hold everything in
place. It is much easier to paint or icing the sides of the cake if the stencil is securely fastened.
I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial. You can do any flavor and color of buttercream frosting and any stencil to decorate your cake. You could even mix using an airbrush with a stencil and royal icing with a stencil to get a flat and embossed look to your design.
