Hello Everyone,

       Butter Chicken is of North Indian origin. It gets its lovely, distinctive flavors from the tangy tomatoes, yogurt and Indian spices added to its gravy. Butter chicken is a full flavored recipe that complements the chicken well, also commonly known as Murgh Makhani. Butter Chicken tastes great with, parathas, naans, and rice. It can be made as mild or spicy as you wish by adjusting the chili powder. Nowadays it is among world’s best-known chicken recipe. Many restaurants around the globe have versions of it!
         Smoaky Kasuri methi, garam masala, and tangy tomatoes made this chicken delightful and aromatic. Let's start.





Preparation Time : 15 Minutes ; Cooking Time : 15 Minutes.

Each Serving Contains 331 Cal.


Ingredients :

To Marinate Chicken :
  1. Chicken breast 300 g
  2. Yogurt / Dahi 2 tbsp
  3. Salt ½ tsp
  4. Red chilli powder ½ tbsp
  5. Ginger-garlic paste ½ tbsp

To Prepare Butter Chicken :
  1. Butter 2 tbsp
  2. Cashew nuts 10, paste
  3. Onion 1 large, pureed
  4. Tomato 2 large, pureed
  5. Ginger-garlic paste ½ tbsp
  6. Red chilli powder ½ tbsp
  7. Salt 1 tsp
  8. Coriander powder 1 tsp
  9. Garam Masala 1 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  11. Milk cream 2 tbsp
  12. Coriander leaves ¼ cup, chopped
  13. Kasuri methi ½ tbsp
  14. Olive oil ½ tbsp

Recipe :
To Marinade Chicken :
  1. In a bowl place chicken pieces and add red chilli powder, ginger-garlic paste, salt, yogurt mix all well and keep aside for 15 minutes.
To prepare Butter Chicken :
  1. Turn on instant pot and set
    sauté mode, add olive oil, once oil get hot add marinated chicken, saute and cook for 3 to 4 minutes and take out from pot and place into bowl.
  2. Now, into the instant pot add butter / ghee and let it melt, add onion paste, saute and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Add tomato puree and ginger - garlic paste and mix all well and cook until aromatic.
  4. Then, add coriander, turmeric and red chilli powder, garam masala, salt and cashew paste (I have soaked cashews in water for 1 hour), add chicken and stir well.
  5. Close instant pot lid with to sealing position. Set to Manual Mode and cook on high pressure for 10 mins followed by quick release.
  6. Open the Instant pot, and add kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves), coriander leaves, milk cream and sauté for more 4 to 5 minutes with glass lid.
  7. Tadaa, buttery, yummy and tempting Indian Butter Chicken ready to serve. Serve hot with Roti / Naan / Chapati / Bhakri or Rice. Enjoy!!!

My Take :
  • Butter chicken can be made 3 days ahead. Let cool; cover and chill.
  • I have used dry roasted onions to make puree, that will help to reduce rawness of onion.
  • You can use white vinegar instead of yogurt.
  • Also can use 1 tbsp of butter and 1 tbsp of olive or veg oil instead of 2 tbsp butter.

  • Based on a 2000 calorie diet.
  • It makes 3 servings.
  • Per serving contains 331 calories, along with carbohydrates - 17.2 g, dietary fibers - 3.45 g, fats - 18.55 g, proteins - 28.5 g.

    Love this masala, but as a vego, I sub tofu or gobi and aloo for the chicken. If feeling really decadent, then paneer. YAM xx

      Yes, Paneer is really good sub for chicken or in vegetarian dishes. Also Paneer is one of the high protein content ingredient in vegetarian diet.

  2. This was delicious and my new Go To Butter Chicken recipe. Great depth of flavour. Used 3 lbs. of chicken, 28 oz. can of rom tomatoes puréed and tripled all the other ingredients. Thank you and so does my family.
