How to Evenly Chop Nuts

      Festival of light, Diwali is around the corner, and have you guys started the pre preparations for Diwali? So our all sweet and savory dishes for Diwali are incomplete without garnishing of dried nuts. Beautifully sliced dry nuts make the dish appealing and delightful. We add dried fruits to get a crunchy and nutty flavor to sweets and tarty sweetness to salads, and savory dishes. These sliced dried fruits come in handy when you are in hurry. 

The crunch of nuts can take dishes from ordinary to extraordinary. Garnished pudding or kheer, become much more appetizing when sprinkled with a handful of toasted, slivered nuts.

      These can be peeled or unpeeled, as everyone likes. Use a sharp knife to slice the dried fruits. Rich in proteins, fats, fiber, and various other nutrients, nuts make for a delicious and healthy snack. Most nuts are extremely nutritious and are loaded with health benefiting properties. Use of Sliced Dry Fruits in Cooking/dishes:

  • Add them to the sweet dishes - as a garnishing.
  • Use them in baking, confectionery, breakfast cereals.
  • All the dry fruits make for happy, healthy snacks that can be added to your breakfast cereals or eaten on the go.
  • Ready-to-eat treats
  • Can be added to soups, salads, oatmeal, or smoothies.
  • Nuts add flavor and texture to all kinds of other foods: salad, yogurt, cereal, stir-fries, rice, or pasta.
  • These are also used as toppings in savory dishes but are also often used to top cakes, muffins, and pastries. 

Dry Nuts I have used to Slice:

  • Pistachios
  • Almonds
  • Cashews

Instructions:

To Slice Pistachios:

  • Deshell the pistachios and place them into a bowl.
  • Pour water and let it soak for 1-2 hours.
  • Now, drain the water and remove the skin(soaking helps t remove the skin of pistachios easily).
  • Pat dried pistachios and cut it evenly using a sharp knife(be careful while chopping)(As you chop, keep your other hand over the nuts with your fingertips curled under to avoid injury).
  • Keep chopping till all pistachios are evenly chopped
  • Place the sliced Pistachios on a rack or baking sheets lined with a paper towel/cheesecloth.
  • Let them dry completely and once dried place them in an airtight container.
  • Use whenever needed. Enjoy!!!

To Slice Almonds:

  • Place almonds into a bowl.
  • Pour water and let it soak for 1-2 hours.
  • Now, drain the water and remove the skin(soaking helps t remove the skin of almonds easily).
  • Pat dried almonds and cut it evenly using a sharp knife(be careful while chopping)(As you chop, keep your other hand over the nuts with your fingertips curled under to avoid injury).
  • Keep chopping till all almonds are evenly chopped
  • Place the sliced almonds on a rack or baking sheets lined with a paper towel/cheesecloth.
  • Let them dry completely and once dried place them in an airtight container.
  • Use whenever needed. Enjoy!!!
