Hello Everyone,
Happy Angaraki Chaturthi To Everyone.

So on the occasion of Angaraki Chaturthi, i have prepared this non-fried, low calorie, gluten-free and vegan sabudana vadas / cutlets / appe / tikkis in the appe pan. It is also no onion, no garlic recipe, as it is a traditional snack enjoyed all around the Indians during fasting days / vrat / upvas.
Sabudana vada Recipe is extremely simple, and it makes a good after school snack or as a fritter to enjoy during Fasting days. In the Indian tradition, there are times when many devout Hindus fast. The food that is taken during fasting day does not contain onions, garlic, wheat products, lentils or pulses. So this sabudana Vada is a very popular and very good fasting recipe. They are crunchy on the outside and a soft and tasty on the inside. So here, is the recipe to make this fasting snack healthier by avoiding frying.

Preparation Time : 10 Minutes ; Cooking Time :15 Minutes.
Each Sabudana Vada / Appe  Contains 63 Cal.

Ingredients :

  1. Sabudana 1 cup
  2. Potato 1, boiled
  3. Peanuts Powder 3 tbsp
  4. Salt 1 tsp
  5. Green chillies 5 strips, minced
  6. Coriander leaves ¼ cup
  7. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  8. Arrowroot Powder 2 tbsp
  9. Veg.oil 1 tbsp

Recipe :
  1. Rinse the sabudana and place it in a bowl with enough water, cover and keep aside for at least 2 hours.
  2. Meanwhile boil the potatoes, peel and mash them.
  3. Roast the peanuts and grind to make powder, mince the green chillies.
  4. Now, in a bowl add all the ingredients
(sabudana, peanuts powder, potato, green chillies, chopped coriander leaves, salt, arrowroot powder and cumin seeds) together except the oil. Mix well together to make dough.
  5. Divide dough into equal portions and make lime sized balls.
  6. Now, turn on flame and heat
the Appe pan over medium flame and add a few drops of oil in each of the mould.
  7. Place the small balls of the sabudana mixture in each of the mould.
  8. Cover it and cook for 2 to 3 minutes and when the underside begins to brown turn the vada to the other side.
  9. Flip the vadas over and allow it to cook on all sides evenly
  10. Drizzle some more oil at intervals, only if needed or if the sago balls are sticking to
    the sides of the pan.
  11. As it cooks, continue to turn it until all sides are completely brown.
  12. Tada, here low calorie, non fried sabudana vadas are ready to serve. Serve hot with groundnut chutney, curd. Enjoy!!!

My Take:
  • The soaked should be soaked well and should be very soft.
  • If you do not have an appe pan, you can shallow fry the vadas in a pan with little oil.
  • You can use Rajgira Flour / Paneer / tapioca flour instead of arrowroot powder.

  • It makes 8 servings.
